In 2016 the garden was awarded Simrishamn’s Council's Architectural Prize for “a fascinating and stylish garden with lots of flower-power and various inspiring, attractive and memorable parts.”
The garden was created in 2014 by Maria Nilsson and Anette Cato and opened to the public in 2015. From 2021 Anette runs the garden herself together with her employees.
To us there is nothing more wonderful than a well-designed, well-cared for and slightly eccentric English garden, and we wanted to recreate some of that here on Österlen.
We hope that our garden can serve as inspiration and a place to experience the beauty, peace and tranquility of a garden even if you don’t have your own.

A romantic and charming garden with lots of flower-power
The English Garden is filled to the brim with a large variety of plants and flowers in carefully combined colour schemes. There are many different “rooms”, each one with its own character and atmosphere, designed to give the visitor a varied and interesting experience and plenty of ideas to take home.
The garden takes its inspiration from English gardens and contains double perennial borders, a rose garden, woodland with a pond and a shade house, a cottage garden and a kitchen garden. There are many cute little buildings including a greenhouse, gazebo, a unique cottage and an old ice-house.
There are plenty of benches strategically placed for visitors to enjoy the best views while resting their feet.
In our Plant shop you can buy many different types of roses, a selection of herbaceous perennials that we have planted in the garden, dahlias, pots, plant supports etc. Our Garden shop is full of indoor plants, pots and vintage furniture in the English style.

Opening times 2026
The Garden opens for the season on 30 April and closes on 4 October.
It is open Thursday-Sunday, 11-17.
Between 15 June-16 August open Tuesday-Sunday, 11-17. It is closed on Mondays. Last entry 16.30. Closed Midsummer Eve.
Entrance to the garden: 75 SEK/person.
You don't have to book your visit unless you are a large group who wishes a guided tour or introduction.
Children up to 15 years free entrance.
Season ticket: 225 kr, gives unlimited entry over the season and -10% off plants
The Plantshop & Garden Shop
The Plantshop and Garden shop open on 15 March, and is then open Thursday-Sunday, 11-17 (every day between 15 June-16 August). Entrance to the plantshop is free!
Midsommar's Eve everything is closed.
GROUPS
Entrance only: 11 or more: 75 kr/person.
Entrance + guided tour (ca 45 min):
1-10 st: 1500 kr. 11 or more: 150 kr/person. We can guide a maximum of 20 people at the time.
You can also book an introductory talk, it takes around 15 min and costs 1000 kr for a group of up to 50 people (1 coach).
Sorry, no dogs except guide dogs in the garden.
Small children must be accompanied by an adult.

The English Garden (Den Engelska Trädgården) is situated behind Svabesholms Kungsgård in the village of Svinaberga/Svabesholm outside Kivik on Österlen in Skåne. It is easy to find us!
Just follow the signs to Stenshuvud National park from road 9 between Kivik and Simrishamn until you see our sign. The new road opened in 2018, please don't try to drive through the courtyard of the Kungsgården. Park behind our shop, here you will also find the entrance to the garden. There is plenty of parking (free).
